Overview
TruFriend is designed as a local-first AI companion app. Normal chats, friend profiles, memories, voice features, and related app data are stored on your device, not on TruFriend servers.
Information stored on your device
Information TruFriend stores on your device may include:
- friend names, friend settings, personality choices, voices, check-in settings, and customization choices;
- chat messages and conversation history;
- saved memories and related personalization data, including memory embeddings, relationship notes, conversation summaries, and follow-up items used to personalize replies;
- local app settings and onboarding state;
- local backup/export/import state needed to complete user-requested privacy operations.
Local AI and internet use
TruFriend uses local AI models for chat, voice, speech-to-text, memory, and classification features. AI responses can be inaccurate or incomplete.
TruFriend does not sell your personal information.
The current version does not require or provide a TruFriend account.
TruFriend does not operate a cloud service that stores your normal chats, memories, friend data, or local backup contents.
The app may use the internet for limited features, including downloading or setting up local AI files, Google Play Billing, and optional internet/current-information features if you enable or use them. When you use an internet/current-information feature, the text needed to perform that request may be sent over the network to retrieve current information. Normal local chats do not need internet access.
Google Play may process subscription, purchase, tax, payment, refund, and account information under Google’s own policies. TruFriend uses Google Play Billing to support Friend Circle subscriptions.
Permissions and security
Microphone access is used only when you use voice or speech-to-text features. Notification permission is used for optional check-ins and notification replies. Internet permission is used for the limited network features described above.
TruFriend uses local encryption and platform security features to protect local app data at rest. Local database data is encrypted, and local key material is protected using Android platform security. No security system is perfect, and device security also depends on your device lock, operating system, and how you protect your phone.
Backups and deletion
Android cloud backup and device-transfer backup for personal TruFriend app data are disabled. TruFriend provides a manual encrypted backup feature instead. If you export a backup, the backup is encrypted with a password you choose and saved where you choose. TruFriend cannot recover that password if you lose it. Do not share your backup file or password with anyone you do not trust.
You can delete local TruFriend data from inside the app using Delete all local data. This removes personal local app data from the device while preserving reinstallable model or voice assets when applicable.
Notifications, responsibility, and children
Notifications use generic content and are designed not to show chat message previews on the lock screen.
You are responsible for what you type into TruFriend and for how you use AI-generated content. Do not use generated voices or responses to impersonate others, deceive people, harass anyone, or make important decisions without human judgment.
TruFriend is not directed to children under 13.
Updates and contact
TruFriend may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. The updated policy will be posted on this page.
